FOUR THIEVES VINEGAR
A Black Comedy
about the Black Death

Two acts:    2 women, 2 men

In the sweltering summer of 1665, the Black Death sweeps through London. Newgate Prison becomes a den of drunkenness and debauchery except for one prisoner, a young apothecary who believes he has a surefire remedy for the disease. Unfortunately the missing ingredient is gold and he and his cellmates must try to find some with the only currencies they do have: sex, wit and lies.
Can the cure be made, and will it work? But with thousands dying each day on the streets above, is their best chance for survival to bar the door and stay put – and try to survive each other?

West End Wilma -  Graham Archer:
All possible plaudits must go to the brilliant writer, Christine Foster. Not only is her writing excellent and sophisticated, her empathy for her characters are remarkable.

London City Nights: “Impeccably researched...compellingly drawn, Foster writes lyrically and the telling the story of the plague is a stroke of genius. It’s great stuff.”

Pub Theatre Nights:
“A terrific atmosphere with a strong period feel and a rogue’s gallery of characters with unexpected depths of compassion –it’s hard not to be moved by their story.”

Theatre Things: “Fabulously revolting with fantastic moments of black comedy! Creates a perfect, captivating world with the makings of something truly outstanding.
