FOUR THIEVES VINEGAR
A Black Comedy
about the Black Death
Two acts: 2 women, 2 men
In the sweltering summer of 1665, the Black Death sweeps through London. Newgate Prison becomes a den of drunkenness and debauchery except for one prisoner, a young apothecary who believes he has a surefire remedy for the disease. Unfortunately the missing ingredient is gold and he and his cellmates must try to find some with the only currencies they do have: sex, wit and lies.
Can the cure be made, and will it work? But with thousands dying each day on the streets above, is their best chance for survival to bar the door and stay put – and try to survive each other?
